The Riviera Maya hosts so many attractive places, it would be a crime to spend your holidays locked in your resort. Yes, perhaps a day or two of pure relaxation could be precise, but once you feel like venturing into trying something new, here are our recommendations:

The Riviera Maya hosts so many attractive places, it would be a crime to spend your holidays locked in your resort. Yes, perhaps a day or two of pure relaxation could be precise, but once you feel like venturing into trying something new, here are our recommendations:

  1. Walk down to the best beaches

Luckily, most resorts in the Riviera Maya have wonderful beaches right in front of the property. That’s amazingly convenient, but sometimes those beaches aren’t the best ones.

Places like Xcacel near Playa del Carmen or Playa Paraiso in Tulum are very popular among locals and tourists alike because of their natural beauty. Checking them out can be a pleasant little excursion to do with family or friends.

2 Explore Mexico’s Maya Ruins

The Maya culture is so rich and interesting that not making an effort to see its vestiges would be considered disrespectful. Chichen Itzá is the most iconic archaeological zone near the Riviera Maya. Sadly, it is in a different state, which would take about 2 or 3 hours to get to.

When visiting the Riviera Maya with people over 50, other Maya ruins like Tulum or Coba are much better ideas because they are much closer and require less walking. In Coba, you can even rent a “taxi” so you don’t have to walk from one pyramid to the other.

3 Swim in fresh-water Cenotes

The Mexican region known as Riviera Maya is home to unique water bodies that can look like underwater caves or like sinkholes filled with crystalline water; Cenotes.

Chose an excursion to one of them and get ready for a fun and hassle-free time. You can choose to just swim in their refreshing, clear waters, or to do more exciting activities like zip lines.

4 Visit the Museums near the Riviera Maya

El Museo Maya is an excellent choice for learning more about the Maya civilization, it is located in the Cancun’s Hotel Zone and has a petite archaeological site called San Miguelito.

MUSA is a much different museum because it was built underwater. It consists of a collection of statues and sculptures, they are made of a special concrete that allows corals and algae to grow on them.

5 Indulge in Mexican Food at its finest

Take your stomach to heaven by treating it to a torta de cochinita (like a pulled-pork sandwich but much better), tacos de pastor, or ceviche. Even when your resort offers amazing options for dining, nothing compares to the taste of authentic street-style food available in Downtown Cancun.

You can jam-pack your visit to the Maya Museum, to MUSA, and to downtown Cancun in a day. Don’t worry about how to get there because Land Savvy’s private transfers have you covered

BONUS: Visit one of the Mexican Caribbean Islands!

Isla Mujeres and Cozumel are two amazing islands you can check out during your stay in the Riviera Maya. Both have archaeological sites, an abundance of authentic Mexican seafood, and gorgeous beaches.
